The THREE Nazarites

 Exodus 32:29

King James Version

29 For Moses had said,

Consecrate yourselves today to the Lord,

even every man upon his son,

and upon his brother;

that he may bestow upon you

a blessing this day.

The Old Testament spoke of THREE Nazarites.

Each with his own power.

Each with his own task.

Each chosen, for GOD's purpose.

What is a "Nazarite"?

What are his traits?

What is he tasked with?

JESUS was a "Nazarene", but He was not a "Nazarite".

Matthew 2:23

King James Version

23 And he came and dwelt

in a city called Nazareth:

that it might be fulfilled

which was spoken by the prophets,

He shall be called a Nazarene.

The LORD was a "pattern" all His own.

The Nazarites were meant to serve the HOLY Nazarene.

For purposes of this post, we shall look into the "Nazarite".

SPIRIT and Scripture will teach us what a "Nazarite" is.

Through verses describing THREE such Nazarites.

Here's a brief description of their beginnings.

And the circumstances of their birth.

As well as GOD's purpose for them:

On SAMSON:

Judges 13:1-14

King James Version

13 And the children of Israel did evil again

in the sight of the Lord;

and the Lord delivered them

into the hand of the Philistines forty years.

2 And there was a certain man of Zorah,

of the family of the Danites

whose name was Manoah;

and his wife was barren, and bare not.

3 And the angel of the Lord

appeared unto the woman,

and said unto her,

Behold now,

thou art barren, and bearest not:

but thou shalt conceive, and bear a son.

4 Now therefore beware,

I pray thee,

and drink not wine nor strong drink,

and eat not any unclean thing:

5 For, lo, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son;

and no razor shall come on his head:

for the child shall be a Nazarite unto God

from the womb:

and he shall begin to deliver Israel

out of the hand of the Philistines.

6 Then the woman came and told her husband,

saying,

A man of God came unto me,

and his countenance was like the countenance

of an angel of God, very terrible:

but I asked him not whence he was,

neither told he me his name:

7 But he said unto me,

Behold,

thou shalt conceive,

and bear a son;

and now drink no wine nor strong drink,

neither eat any unclean thing:

for the child shall be a Nazarite to God

from the womb to the day of his death.

8 Then Manoah intreated the Lord, and said,

O my Lord,

let the man of God which thou didst send

come again unto us,

and teach us what we shall do

unto the child that shall be born.

9 And God hearkened to the voice of Manoah;

and the angel of God came again unto the woman

as she sat in the field:

but Manoah her husband was not with her.

10 And the woman made haste, and ran,

and shewed her husband, and said unto him,

Behold, the man hath appeared unto me,

that came unto me the other day.

11 And Manoah arose, and went after his wife,

and came to the man, and said unto him,

Art thou the man that spakest unto the woman?

And he said, I am.

12 And Manoah said,

Now let thy words come to pass.

How shall we order the child,

and how shall we do unto him?

13 And the angel of the Lord said unto Manoah,

Of all that I said unto the woman let her beware.

14 She may not eat of any thing that cometh of the vine,

neither let her drink wine or strong drink,

nor eat any unclean thing:

all that I commanded her let her observe.

On SAMUEL:

1 Samuel 1:1-11

King James Version

1 Now there was a certain man of Ramathaimzophim,

of mount Ephraim,

and his name was Elkanah,

the son of Jeroham,

the son of Elihu,

the son of Tohu,

the son of Zuph, an Ephrathite:

2 And he had two wives;

the name of the one was Hannah,

and the name of the other Peninnah:

and Peninnah had children,

but Hannah had no children.

3 And this man went up out of his city yearly

to worship and to sacrifice

unto the Lord of hosts in Shiloh.

And the two sons of Eli,

Hophni and Phinehas,

the priests of the Lord, were there.

4 And when the time was that Elkanah offered,

he gave to Peninnah his wife,

and to all her sons and her daughters, portions:

5 But unto Hannah he gave a worthy portion;

for he loved Hannah:

but the Lord had shut up her womb.

6 And her adversary also provoked her sore,

for to make her fret,

because the Lord had shut up her womb.

7 And as he did so year by year,

when she went up to the house of the Lord,

so she provoked her;

therefore she wept, and did not eat.

8 Then said Elkanah her husband to her,

Hannah, why weepest thou?

and why eatest thou not?

and why is thy heart grieved?

am not I better to thee than ten sons?

9 So Hannah rose up after they had eaten in Shiloh,

and after they had drunk.

Now Eli the priest sat upon a seat

by a post of the temple of the Lord.

10 And she was in bitterness of soul,

and prayed unto the Lord, and wept sore.

11 And she vowed a vow, and said,

O Lord of hosts,

if thou wilt indeed look

on the affliction of thine handmaid,

and remember me,

and not forget thine handmaid,

but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child,

then I will give him unto the Lord

all the days of his life,

and there shall no razor come

upon his head.

On JOHN the BAPTIST:

Luke 1:5-17

King James Version

5 There was in the days of Herod,

the king of Judaea,

a certain priest named Zacharias,

of the course of Abia:

and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron

and her name was Elisabeth.

6 And they were both righteous before God,

walking in all the commandments

and ordinances of the Lord blameless.

7 And they had no child,

because that Elisabeth was barren,

and they both were now well stricken in years.

8 And it came to pass,

that while he executed the priest's office before God

in the order of his course,

9 According to the custom of the priest's office,

his lot was to burn incense

when he went into the temple of the Lord.

10 And the whole multitude of the people

were praying without at the time of incense.

11 And there appeared unto him an angel of the Lord

standing on the right side of the altar of incense.

12 And when Zacharias saw him,

he was troubled, and fear fell upon him.

13 But the angel said unto him,

Fear not, Zacharias:

for thy prayer is heard;

and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son,

and thou shalt call his name John.

14 And thou shalt have joy and gladness;

and many shall rejoice at his birth.

15 For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord,

and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink;

and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost,

even from his mother's womb.

16 And many of the children of Israel

shall he turn to the Lord their God.

17 And he shall go before him

in the spirit and power of Elias,

to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children,

and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just;

to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.

Noticed anything?

Especially about their mothers?

They were all "barren".

Unable to have a child.

Much less, a son.

But GOD took mercy upon them.

And gave them the child they so dearly desired.

Through an announcement from TWO angels of the LORD.

And one priest, who overheard the mother's prayer.

GOD gifted them with sons.

One strong man, and the other two, prophets.

Which were all meant to serve Him.

These sons were born for a purpose.

But first, the distinct traits of a Nazarite.

Even of the mothers chosen:

Judges 13:3-5

King James Version

3 And the angel of the Lord appeared unto the woman, and said unto her, Behold now, thou art barren, and bearest not: but thou shalt conceive, and bear a son.

4 Now therefore beware, I pray thee, and drink not wine nor strong drink, and eat not any unclean thing:

5 For, lo, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and no razor shall come on his head: for the child shall be a Nazarite unto God from the womb: and he shall begin to deliver Israel out of the hand of the Philistines.

1 Samuel 1:11

King James Version

11 And she vowed a vow, and said, O Lord of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the Lord all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head.

Luke 1:15

King James Version

15 For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother's womb.

No wine, or strong drink.

No food from an unclean thing.

No razor shall pass upon the head.

Filled with the "Holy Ghost".

Consecrated for GOD's purpose -- from the womb, to death.

Those were the traits GOD instituted upon a "Nazarite".

Whom GOD takes mercy upon, He gifts with a son.

Whom GOD has a purpose for, He lays down the rules.

Whom GOD appoints to save Israel, He chooses, and prepares.

Such are the THREE Nazarites.

Samson, Samuel, and John the Baptist.

Anointed by GOD, for His perfect purpose.

With important tasks to fulfill, for the prophesied MESSIAH.

Consecrated to GOD, for His magnificent purpose.

All meant for holiness.

When you DESIRE to be a BETTER person

Jeremiah 27:5

King James Version

5 I have made the earth,

the man and the beast that are upon the ground,

by my great power and by my outstretched arm,

and have given it unto whom it seemed meet unto me.

When you desire to be a better person, God will show up.

When you wish to know God's laws, He is sure to teach you.

He will lead you to His Son, JESUS, to be corrected.

He will gift you with His HOLY SPIRIT, so you may be taught.

It has been quite a journey for me, since 6 September 2019.

It's close to two years now.

Of non-stop study in the LAWS of CHRIST.

Of being taught, night and day, by the HOLY SPIRIT of GOD.

What do I have to show for it?

Nothing that the world can accept.

Doesn't matter.

Only my soul matters.

As I follow God's will.

A true born again's objective is service to others, by SERVING the LORD first.

Jesus will teach you how to serve others.

In a way that's pleasing, and acceptable, to God.

Let it be known, the service you think is acceptable -- to you, and others -- may not be acceptable to God.

JESUS is firm about that.

Luke 16:15

King James Version

15 And he said unto them,

Ye are they which justify yourselves before men;

but God knoweth your hearts:

for that which is highly esteemed among men

is abomination in the sight of God.

Now, everything seems clear to me.

I know the direction to take.

It's ALL JESUS.

The world will have nothing to do with us.

But that's okay, the WORD is all that will remain.

On the day GOD chooses to send back His SON.

And to have their faithful meet Jesus up in the air.

Wake up to GOD's GLORY now.

It's time to do a 180-degree turn.

Stop all you're doing now.

Stop feeding your vanity.

Stop feeding the world's vanity.

Stop living blindly.

King Solomon was right.

It's all vanity.

Ecclesiastes 1:12-14

King James Version

12 I the Preacher was king over Israel in Jerusalem.

13 And I gave my heart to seek and search out by wisdom

concerning all things that are done under heaven:

this sore travail hath God given to the sons of man

to be exercised therewith.

14 I have seen all the works

that are done under the sun;

and,

behold,

all is vanity

and vexation of spirit.

JESUS is the way.

He is our only truth.

He is our only destination.

There is nothing else, but GOD.

Jesus, and God, are ONE.

Jesus is the SON of GOD.

It's time you knew, and believed that, too.

I was right to take this path, since I first started this blog you're reading now from 24 November 2018.

From being a child of earth, I was transformed into a child of GOD.

Now, all other blogs have been consolidated in my new go-to blog, EDUCATION from SPIRIT.

And it's all preparation.

We must be blameless before the LORD.

Philippians 2:14-16

King James Version

14 Do all things without murmurings and disputings:

15 That ye may be blameless and harmless,

the sons of God,

without rebuke

in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation,

among whom ye shine as lights in the world;

16 Holding forth the word of life;

that I may rejoice in the day of Christ,

that I have not run in vain,

neither laboured in vain.

ALL glory belong to GOD alone.

By ourselves, we can do nothing.

John 15:5

King James Version

5 I am the vine,

ye are the branches

He that abideth in me,

and I in him,

the same bringeth forth much fruit:

for without me ye can do nothing.

A HEART for GOD

The LORD JESUS said:

John 14:21

King James Version

21 He that hath my commandments,

and keepeth them,

he it is that loveth me:

and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father,

and I will love him,

and will manifest myself to him.

Do you have a heart for God?

Then you will want to do right by Him.

You will want to know His will.

You will want to follow His commandments.

You will want to know about His Son, Jesus.

You will want to follow the teachings of His Son.

You will want to know about the Holy Spirit.

You will let the Holy Spirit teach you about Christ.

You will want to know why it's important to be born again.

You will realize the urgency of the times.

You will not desire the things of the world anymore.

You will want to know God's truth.

I've always known I love God.

But my love was imperfect.

I was imperfect.

The desire was there, but the way wasn't clear.

Until God made me born again, when I finally surrendered to His will.

By myself, I couldn't figure things out.

A piece was always missing.

I eventually got to know the LORD JESUS held that piece.

The Holy Spirit showed me all that.

Then things became crystal clear.

As born again, now, I know to love God, means to believe in Jesus.

He is the way, after all.

Until you've become a sincere believer, you won't really understand the simplicity of His words, which is mouthed often by many people, and yet, how many follow, and commit it to heart?

John 14:6

King James Version

6 Jesus saith unto him,

I am the way,

the truth,

and the life:

no man cometh unto the Father,

but by me.

For myself, I've come to know.

Jesus is my ONE, and ONLY focus now.

He holds ALL the answers to the TRUTH we seek.

Through the Holy Spirit of God, we've created work for GOD's GLORY alone.

A true born again seeks the pure, the simple, and the divine.

I sought the treasures of the Bible.

The EDUCATION we NEED to have

Nothing is ever wasted;

it's all foundation.

Ever liked school?

What are your thoughts about school?

Parents are adamant we go to school.

It's for our future, they say.

They work real hard, so we won't be marginalized.

Maybe, they suffered that, that's why.

First time in school, we get nervous.

Are people gonna be kind?

Can we still play?

As the years go by, we warm up to it.

We even start enjoying the new stuff we get -- new pad paper, pencils, crayons, sharpeners, erasers, bag, lunch.

We sniff the aromatic erasers, oily crayons, new pad papers, even the lead on our Mongol pencils.

One would think they're teaching us to be bloodhounds in school.

Not so.

Maybe, it's also my way to like school -- getting the new stuff, and all that.

We get to know other kids, and make new friends.

Some like us; some don't.

We get a taste of how life is outside of our homes.

Teachers are either kind, strict, tired, or bored.

We go through the whole process for the first two decades of our lives.

More, if we pursue higher learning.

As we get older, the questions begin:

Does education ensure a better future?

Do we become better people for it?

Did we learn relevant stuff?

Is it everything people told us about?

Is it everything we expected?

Is it at all necessary?

Is education exciting?

Are schools exciting?

Do we really learn?

What did we learn?

I got a B.S., eventually.

Nope, it's not THAT B.S.

It was hard-earned B.S. in Architecture.

Five, long years.

Taught me cool stuff.

Knowledge was transferred into many other jobs I did.

Influenced the way I thought, wrote, taught, conducted myself.

Precision became key.

What about you?

What did you take up?

Did you finish?

Did you like school?

Were you able to go to school?

What did your parents think of school?

Did they have an education, too?

What is education to you?

Were people kind?

Would you have your kids go to school?

What would you want them to take up?

Would they have a say in it?

How has the world changed?

Did schools evolve, to go along with that change?

Are schools getting better?

Are kids still interested in school?

What are kids interested in, now?

Do your kids listen to you?

Do your students listen to you?

Do you like listening to your professors?

What could be better taught?

What's missing?

Since this is a blog on God, I shall talk about what's missing.

GOD.

Because I got into Catholic schools, naturally, I was taught doctrine throughout.

We also studied "world religions".

Then when I got to travel a bit, I saw that for myself.

Art, culture, religion, commerce.

More new stuff.

Did studies of my own, searching for something elusive.

I wanted God's TRUTH.

Was the Bible HIS Truth?

Was the Bible complete?

Did people leave out stuff?

Did the translators get it right?

I do have a lot of questions, don't I?

Well, as a graduate of Architecture, I worked as a journalist (astounding, isn't it), thus, the questions.

Became editor, lecturer, entrepreneur, and too many other jobs in between.

What was I doing, doing all that?

Educating myself.

Loved studying, you know.

School taught you one thing.

Life taught you another.

It's up to us to sift the wheat, from the chaff.

The essential, from the non-essential.

Did you get to do that, too?

Was it a pleasant experience for you?

Or you could barely talk about it?

Did you get the education you need?

Was life kind?

Or was it harsh?

Were you kind?

Or were you harsh?

School. Life. God.

Teachers, parents, siblings, friends, Jesus, the Holy Spirit in the midst.

Where does one get the best education, ever?

I must say it's from the HOLY SPIRIT of GOD.

Jesus promised:

John 14:26

King James Version

26 But the Comforter,

which is the Holy Ghost,

whom the Father will send in my name,

he shall teach you all things,

and bring all things to your remembrance,

whatsoever I have said unto you.

When God made me born again - only He could convert me, btw -- I headed for the Bible.

Threw away ALL other books I'd been studying.

The HOLY SPIRIT filled that missing link.

The best teacher is the ONE who breathed life into us.

Genesis 2:7

King James Version

7 And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground,

and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life;

and man became a living soul.

Finally, I knew what life meant.

I knew what I was on earth for.

I knew whom to follow.

I knew what to believe.

I knew who to trust.

I knew what to teach.

My education is complete.

I just await my Teacher, who I will meet up in the air, in a changed body.

But first, I need to be sanctified.

Of all the world's dross.

Can't meet my ultimate teacher as I am.

There's still stuff to do.

I'm on it.
